2016 Time Trialling Underway!

Time trial season has begun on Thursday evenings at Bishops Tawton. It is a great opportunity to see how the juniors improve over the coming season. It is quite a social too back at HQ with tea and cake afterwards! All juniors 12 years + can take part in the 10 mile TT's. A nominated adult will ride with the junior first time to ensure they are safe and road wise! A parental consent form also needs to be completed beforehand. We have had great times recorded from Oli, Tom, Neve, James, Jess, Hannah and Tyler so early in the season. The coaches are looking forward to seeing how those times improve in the coming few months.

North Devon Wheelers Youth  Annual Tour of Tesco Series 2015

North Devon Wheelers Youth hosted a series of 4 races in their annual Tour of Tesco Series. Riders aged 8 to 16 took on the fast, sweeping circuit in the car park of the Taw View store in Barnstaple. Points were given over the series of races and then overall Series Podium winners were announced on the final day. A mixture of weather conditons over the series, tested the riders on the tight and twisting track. Winter training paid off and has proved effective for our Wheelers who took 14 of the overall podium places. We saw many new Youth members taking part and experience cycle racing for the first time.

We had an international flavour to round three when 3 riders from Holland competed in the heavy rain. Further class was added to the start list by the daughters of former professional Magnus Backstedt, who won a Tour de France Stage in 1998 and the Paris-Roubaix in 2004.

Under 12 Wheelers Lewis Ross and Sid Baldaro battled it out in each of the races which proved exciting to watch. They both used clever team work to defeat their rivals. Neve Upton had a tense final race, as she had to finish ahead of a competitior from Cardiff to be sure of the U14 series victory. Throughout the 30 minute race the girls swapped positions, trying to steal an advantage. Neither could develop a gap so it was left to a sprint finish for the line which Neve won to take the title.

Zach Adams won 3 rounds to take the U8 boys series, with first time racer Jack Babb taking 3rd place overall. Hollie Morrish and Dotty Baldaro repeated the 3 win feat in their respective categories. Notable improvements for the coaches this series were Oli Stone in the Under 14's category and Bradley Manning in the U10 boys.

The club would like to give a big thank you to our sponsor Southfork Bike Shop in Braunton. They kindly gave some fantastic prizes for the overall podium winners. Thanks also goes to Halfords for their support of the event and to Taw View Tescos for their venue.

A massive thank you.......the event would not be held without the dedication of Tony and Aliyah Ross. They really do run a fantastic event for us each year which takes many hours of their time. It is very much appreciated!

And lastly, the whole event would not be able to run without out dedicated parents and families of the youth section. We are incredibly lucky to have a big support network of marshalls, timekeepers and first aiders. Thanks to you all!

Winter Training Completed!

Throughout the winter we have had great attendance at Bishops Tawton Hall each Thursday evening where we have been training well on our rollers. We would like to thank Jewson's and North Devon Steel Services for donating materials for us to use for rails to keep all our young riders safe!
